wow--you cuties are so creative and willing to try new things! I learn so much just reading posts. Thanks.
Maybe this will work. We got it from guest speaker at this month's sewing club.
Use 100% Muslin. Wash material in hot water using reg. laundry detergent and 2 Tablespoons washing soda. Run muslin through 2 rinse cycles. Put muslin into bucket and add 2 cups hot water and 1/4 cup alum for each yard of material. Must be immersed. allow liquid to cool, could take several hours. Dissolve 1 teaspoon washing soda for each yard of muslin in 1/2 cup hot water. add this misture to the bucket (will fizz) Soak overnight or at least 2 hours. Wring out treated muslin . Do not rinse, and hang to dry. When just damp iron wrinkles out. I haven't tried this but she's used it for years.
That sounds interesting - alum is used as a mordant for dyes. (It makes the dye stick to the fibres) BTW in UK musline is a transparent loosely woven cotton fabric. I think you are talking about our calico.
Thanks for help locating the answer and now it will be tried using a super saturated solution as learned in chemistry class. Results will be posted when available.
no need to use more than about three table spoons full in half a bowl of water. just make sure yowa the fbric first of any starch and rinse well then simple soak in the soda ash solution for a few minutes. squeeze out surplus and hang to dry iron with a protective sheet of paper over the fabric to avoid any marks from the iron
i like to use large mens hankerchiefs timming to fit 1/4 inch inside A4 freezer paper. just make sure there are no loose threads to catch the rollers.

Very Cool! Hope it works for me! Thanks Live Laugh Download Stitch!
It was Eggyannie's own method. She soaks the fabric in a very strong washing soda solution. Perhaps she will be along soon to explain the details.
Thanks for asking, I missed this and am now going to try it. Jan
I think there is more information . maybe someone will be a bit more helpful.
