Marji, maybe someone thats new in the SS this year can get some ideas from this old post if there SS has posted on here, unfortunitly my person has no posts on this thread.

Better to make a new post, saying "get ideas from last year's thread" and put a link. People are not looking at the date, and waiting for Sue's message, 9 months later. People don't read the dates.

17716
by marjialexa Moderator 25 Jul 2012

Please look at the date up by Sue's name--this message was posted 30 October of 2011! I'm assuming this was LAST year's Secret Santa exchange. I don't think this applies to this year, but I'm sure Sue will correct me if I'm wrong.

Before you get too excited about answering a post, especially if you've found the post through something like Google search, please look at the date it was originally posted. In fact, it's always good to look when something was posted originally, because sometimes people are getting answers to questions they asked months ago, and the project or event is long over with that they needed help with. Especially with announcements like this one, it can be very confusing for people. Thanks, hugs, Marji

I haven't received anything either so I came back to take another look at this post when I got to thinking that March was pretty early for Christmas when we haven't had Christmas in July yet. That is when I realized that this post is from Oct 2011. Not relevant right now so you can stop checking your inbox.

Thanks Glenda

I am partial to blue, sparkly, snowflakes and silver metallic s. I have a simple theme usually with FSL items all around my LR and dining area. I have a bar/island and is decorated with small items like angels and other fun stuff. My family room I reserve for my Nativity set. I tend to be more serious in this area. I have wood floors and dark brown simple furniture. I have a small tree as my children are grown and moved away. The tree was decorated last year with Christmas bulbs for each of my grandchildren. When my granddaughter comes I like soft plush toys, and busy books.

Hope this helps!

Hugs, Bonnie

I Believe- big time- My house gets decorated twice a year (July&December) with mostly handmade items cushions, stockings, mats, hangers. I like the traditional red & gree, gold, silver or white. DO NOT like the purple, pink & some blue decorations that are 'the rage' at the moment-YUK.
I love to add angels & Aussie items such as life-size white boombers (I made them from MDF.) Santa has gumnuts & gum leaves draped around him, I have australian animals holding stars or tinsell or presents, I have four cmas trees: my table gets the full treatment all of December: I put up Christmas lights- hubby laughs as we live out in the country - makes no difference to me - the flashing Merry Christmas goes all night. Just love giving at Christmas time so bring it on
hugs & sparkles from minicow

Added for Secret Sister...Hope I'm easy to please gggg. I love my country Australia, &, as my birthday falls in July(have parties for Christmas in July) I would love anything Aussie (birds, animals, flowers) &/or anything Christmas. Other than that anything in FSL (not bowls/baskets gather too much dust here on the farm). Hobbies other than sewing/machine embroidery are photography, quilt making & miniatures(dollshouses) - Favourite colours yellow, pink, red. I love Australian fabrics.

I am an eclectic Christmas decorator, anything goes except Blue.
My Christmas tree decorations have been collected, or hand made, over the last 40 years and I have far too many to fit on any tree other than a real one. That's my excuse for buying a real tree every Christmas. LOL!!!
Around the house I hang pine cones I have decorated with Santa Snow and trailing ribbons and I hang lots of Christmas garlands with bells across the ceiling.
Every year I buy some sort of Angel to hang on my tree, but I have no lace Angels.

Well that's not exactly true, I have all the beautiful FSL Angels Cuties sent me when I was fighting breast cancer, but they are all permanently stitched to my wedding shawl and take pride of place, on my dressmaker's dummy, in my sewing room.

Non-Christmas theme gifts are absolutely welcome.
Like most digitisers I never seem to find time to sew for myself. And like most women, I love laces, ribbons, butterflies, feminine pretty things, country cottage, sunbonnets, flowers, birds, oh just about anything and being a Leo, cats are top of my list.

Something I am in dire need of is hand towels for my kitchen, any country colour but blue.

OK, I know it's too much information, but it will probably be my only reply because Tidgy will most likely be having the radiation treatment this week and I will be making several full day trips to the University in Sydney.
Besides, too much info is far better than not having enough and struggling to find something to make. Hugs and roses, Meganne

Meganne, are all blue colors out? I thought I read on the other "favorites" thread that turquoise is a favorite color and that you like the blue wren bird. Or do you just not like the "country blue" color? Just curious! Denise

meganne by meganne 07 Nov 2011

Oh dear, I do love blues, but not in my house, sounds kinda weird doesn't it? We have gorgeous blue bathrooms in this house and they look wonderful but all my towels are greens, apricots and beiges so nothing matches & we can't re-tile the bathrooms because Ray is a blue person.
I feel good when I am surrounded by warm colours. I wear all colours, but have very few blue Items. Yes, I love Teals and Turquoise and Aquas and I love and value any gift, regardless of the colour. I keep everything. LOL!!!

meganne by meganne 07 Nov 2011

meganne by meganne 10 Nov 2011

I thought what I wrote was confusing, so.. You know when you see some item & you say, "Oh isn't that colour gorgeous"
You may love it, but it isn't for you.
That's how I feel about cool colours, blues, teals etc. And I loathe bright abstracts or Hawaiian type florals.

meganne by meganne 10 Nov 2011

or Hawaiian type large florals. I guess I have always been conservative with clothing. But I'm coming out of my shell a lot as I get older. LOL!!!!

shuede by shuede 10 Nov 2011

Would your answer be the same if the light blue color were an accent color? Thinking of a color wheel, for instance, light blue would be opposite of a peach color. Just curious, again.

I know what you mean about liking a color but not really wanting it for yourself. I may go to someone's home and love their color scheme/style for them, but it wouldn't necessarily be something I'd like for myself.

I like traditional Christmas colors (red, green, gold, silver) for Christmas. I am partial to blues for myself. I have "earth tones" (browns, tans, dark greens, creams, etc.) in my house. I do decorate for Christmas and would appreciate a year-around item just as much as a Christmas item.

Hiya! I agree with Annie in the Uk, It's a shame not to enjoy such lovely Christmasy items all year round - unless you're Wal-Mart - then you can display them almost year round! :-D I tend toward Christmas colors of burgundy and gold or red and green. For everyday items: blue and white for the kitchen. White on white anywhere (love heirloom look) and in the sewing room "girly pastels" light pinks, greens and yellows just make me happy. I love anything someone took the time to make for me ! Hugs and *'s. Thanks! Deb

eggyannie by eggyannie 31 Oct 2011

I to am so pleased that there are some others in the secret santa set that are not festivaly orientated. The Origninal "Santa" who was dressed in red was actually the Roman Lord of missrule. On Yule eve the upper class gave a party to all the servants and it went on for several days the upper class would serve their servants themselves (Just like the officers in the Royal navy do on Christmas day to this day)and the servants were given slave girls to bring some fun to the party. The job of the Lord of missrule was to go around and make sure everyone was haveing a good time, because for many of the servants this would be the last days of their life as they would be sent to the arena at the next games day and fed to the lions.
nice custom.Have a Merry Christmas every one... or else ......annie in the UK

meganne by meganne 31 Oct 2011

I agree with you all 100%, so much effort put in by so many harried women, to be enjoyed for so short a time, Bah Humbug!!!
Yes I do it every year, but not Easter or Halloween

I fall in this category as well. I don't decorate for any of the holidays. Spend almost all holidays with my grandsons at their home. Daughter decorates with deep burgundy and deep green with gold and it's very pretty. My colors are blue and purple.
