I love to use sticky back stabilizers for the grandchildrens clothes that I embroider. I am "forced" to use the Sulky brand, because that is all my local Joann's store carries. I am wondering>>

Question! After you stick and stitch, then unhoop and cut away what is left is a cut away stabilizer right? i have been using tear away wash away on item that I sell and the stabilizer access is gone in first wash. have you tried it?

Yes Kay the tear away is left and then I iron on a backing to cover it from being scratchy. I have never heard tear away wash away hmmmmmm tell me more

Charlie, Try Marathron Thread. Peel and Stick. They have large rolls and smaller rolls. You can get a better price on the larger roll. ( when we order the larger roll 3 of us split the cost ). Good to see you back.

Charlie I always run a basting stitch around my fabric inside of the hoop when I'm no hooping the fabric. Have u tried this instead of the sticky back? Meg did basting stitches for us to fit any hoop & I really like this method. *

yes Lillian Meg made basting stitches for me too, and I absolutely love them and use them often. I rarely hoop anything anymore lol. Unfortunately when I am working with these tiny little clothes I cant get them to stay put to do the basting stitch lol so that is why I use the sticky back.

I've never used the sticky back, but do use an iron-on tear-away (don't know the brand name off hand though...). I have good luck with this on knits, well actually like it for many applications. I think it might be thinner than if compairing it with the sticky...but does keep things from shifting for me. I would think it's less expensive than the sticky back, too. Just a thought!

When using the iron on for a 4x4 hoop you have to hoop everything. When I use sticky back I just hoop the stabilizer and then peel the wax paper off and then stick the fabric onto the sticky back and use stick pins to secure.

A question for you Miss Charlie. Have you ever had trouble with the sticky back stabilizers gumming up your machine? I hear that sticky backs often do that, but I have never been brave enough to use them. That's why I use 505 spray, iron on, or hydro-stick stabilizer. I'm really interested in your experience with them. ...Barb *4U

I have never had any problems either. I make sure to wipe off my needle after so it doesn't get a build up.

I too have used the sticky back stabilizer and like it and again from Jo-Ann's. We don't have much over here in Jeddah so have to bring a suppily back with me each time or buy on line. I buy the normal stabelizer on line but have not looked for any sticky back yet so can't advise you on this one.

I am just wondering what other brands are good and what brands to stay away from. It is so difficult to make some purchases online, you have made an investment of at least $20 (in my life that is a lot of money lol) just to find out it is junk! So I guess I am looking for reviews of other brands.

I don't have any actual personal experience with it yet, but at Designs by SiCK there are stabilizers for sale that were developed by the same man who developed stabilizers for Floriani. Since Floriani stabilizers are good, I'm assuming these would be, too. Perhaps someone else has some experience with other websites. I generally get stabilizers from my dealer, so I really have no experience with stuff online. Hope someone has more information for you, best of luck, hugs, Marji
