Could someone please tell me what the stuff is called that you iron on the back of embroidery so it won't scratch. Also where do you get it in Australia. I have asked a few places and nobody

seems to know what I am talking about. Thanks

I bought a packet of Floriani Dream Weave Fusible at the Melbourne Quilt Expo recently. $50 for 30"x3yards (completely wrecked my budget). It's good and has several applications, and it looks like a life-time supply to me. Google 'Floriani' for the Australian distributors. I'm sure there must be cheaper products and equally as good. If I hadn't seen this I'd have bought lightweight fusible vilene from Spotlight or something like whisperweft, maybe.
Someone more local would suit me better. I'll try all the suggestions already sent in.

Hi Alma, it's Chris here from Newcastle. I spent part of my Honeymoon in your beautiful city. I couldn't get over the colour of the Blue Lake (it was crystal clear for a good way down) and boy what a climb up. We were on our way to the Great Ocean Road where we stayed at Lorn and Apollo Bay. Nice to see another Aussie.

    Love and blessings Chris

Floriani has the mesh "No Show Mesh Fusible"
it is a sheer cutaway. It provides two uses, keep scratchstitches from touching the skin, and avoids using harmful adhesive sprays that can beat up your machine. They have a distributor in USA, link below, maybe they can tell you who carries it in Australia.

Wow, mateys, I keep forgetting just how many Australian gals we have here at Cute, till I see you all together! I don't know about the shipping, but Designs by SiCK has stabilisers and the 'cloud cover' stuff, and he gets it from a very reputable supplier, it's fairly inexpensive especially when he has a sale. The shipping could kill you, though, he's in Canada, also ships to US from a US site. I'm always amazed at how much it can cost to send things to you gals--told the post office once I just wanted to mail the package, not buy the boat it was going on! Hee hee hee, hugs, Marji

It all depends on what you want to send Marji. What they don't tell you is that you can buy fixed rate envelopes and send up to 3lb weight in them, and they have fixed rate boxes too. You can fit a lot of material in a 3lb envelope, but I am sure some of USPS staff know nothing about these options or else they don't want to offer them preferring to sell the more expensive service. All the info is available at the USPS web site.

I just had one lady (Ebay) quote me $38 US to send a presser foot, when I informed her of the alternatives the price came down to $3.50, :-)

Thanks, Meg! Sometimes I go to the USPS site, and think they don't want to tell you the information, either. I was looking up those new 'flat rate' boxes they're advertising, and I could find out everything about them including who makes the daggone boxes, but not the price! I had to jump thru a couple of hoops to find that. Gotta wonder about the Post Office. I think Men In Black II had it right, when they said the Post Office was mostly staffed by aliens, hee hee hee. No offence to any postal workers, my mailman works hard, it's when you get a bit higher they get squirrley. Hugs, Marji

I buy most of my Embroidery supplies overseas as it is cheaper, yes, even including dollar exchange and postage to Aus, it is cheaper even for things such as Schmetz embroidery or even Universal needles.

I buy my Stabiliser from the first link below, ABC.

At the moment they are having a 20% off sale so I just purchased another 25 yards each, of my three most used stabilisers.

I also buy stabilizer, and many other things on special, from Shoppers Rule. I now have a fabulous (500+ spool) collection of Robinson Anton threads, thanks to their great specials. It costs nothing to become a member and receive their emails, you'll be glad you did.

Another favourite shop, especially for Madeira threads, is Allstitch.

Then of course I have my Favourite ebay suppliers for needles, viking accessories and other things.

You really do need to shop around and do the maths.

Put all the things in your shopping cart, go to the checkout, AND hit the freight/postage button to find out the total, check the daily exchange rate and use the currency converter (LINK 4)

I think you will be surprised the difference in what it would cost you to buy the same things here in AUS.
If you can even find them that is.

Remember Americans spell stabiliser with a 'Z' not an 'S' like we do.

FINALLY, there is practically no Stitching information you can't find at Embroidery Library. Link 5

I hope this helps. BTW whereabouts in Aus are you?

    Hugs n roses, Meganne

Maria has listed one and I've listed 2 others. All three are great Ebay sellers with great prices, cheap postage and XLNT service.

We don't have Joannes here in Aus and it is one of the stores that wants to ship to Aus using "expeditied delivery", which is twice the price of Priority Airmail.
It is really nice of you to offer to ship some to Gayle.

Well, you did get a lot of really good sites. Now you just have to "pick & choose". Good luck and thanks for asking - we all learn from one's questions. Love this group. sue

Rachel Stirling she lives in Victoria...Australia
She would have it and I have purchased off her before. She is honest and reliable. Ask her if you do not see it..She used to have a yahoo group where you got great deals and she also used to send out sample packs for a small fee and have instructions and uses with all samples...hope this helps you also...

I am sure you could use one of this iron on vliseline products (similar surely available in your part of the world)
very smooth and not too thick is the inlay normally used for padding tablecloths
it will stick by ironing, but I recommend to fix it by sewing- will not survive laundry for too long.

gayle I purchase a vilene for stretch material at
    Spotlight.It sells for $12.95 per mtr.But I buy 1/2
mtr and is plenty for doing baby or children clothes
You just iron it on the inside of your garment over your design and it washes great.Hope this helps
