6799 I thought this would b easy but I think its going to be my tiny curved scissors
93 The cable to make my machine work. Without the cable the machine wont work and I cannot sew
8785 Needle threader which I need since glasses do not count as sewing notion. If I can't thread the needle I will never get to use the seam ripper which would be second.
8714 Hard to choose between my seam ripper and small scissors....wow....ok. Would be my scissors...i can improvise the seam ripper...but not the small scissors.
96 I am glad that you asked this question. I sure have learned about more notions that I should get.

58958 I've got about 7 different scissors and I can' go without one, from as small as my pinki finger - as big as a normal ruler. And the support of HUBBY. Love Marie.
5189 A tough call...my teeny curved embroidery scissors are a must, but I also couldn't work without my sewing gauge!
1962 For embroidery I can't do without my
forceps and my long handled curved
scissors...
I use the forceps for grabbing and holding
threads to cut them, pulling bobbin thread
through, holding needles to change them,
etc.
For ordinary machine sewing I can't
live without my seam ripper, I use it for
so many things, not the least of which is
guiding material when it is right up close
to the needle, so I don't pierce my
fingers.

Lots of us use our seam rippers a lot. Do you think it could be improved upon?
1938 Paula, if it be only one - then that would have to be my little nippers - that sit right next to my embroidery machne and are used with each and every embroidery job. How about you - what would it be? *4U
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
Thanks for answering the question. My would have to be my seam ripper that has tweezers on the other end and the cover is a magnifying glass.
by coco128 29 Aug 2009
oh yeah ... where do get those ... seam ripper, tweezers AND a magnifying glass...awesome
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
Yes they are an all in one item and I was given them by my Uncle. They were my Aunts and because I had commented one them whenmy Aunt passed away he sent them to me.I have never seen them in astore. Sorry:(
96710 My vote goes to my rotary cutter, accompanied by its large ruler and cutting mat- I consider these as a unit ;-)
19728 Paula, I'd have to say my DH would be the ONE sewing notion that I couldn't live without. Oh sorry, he's not really a sewing notion is he, but he does keep my coffee cup full while I'm embroidering, haha. The SECOND thing that I couldn't live without would be my 'curved blade Squissors', same as the squeezers in Jerrilyn's picture. Love and hugs sweetie.
13091 well I should say: my reading-spectacles! otherwise I cannot see what I'm doing LOL
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
I would agree with that but I don;t all them a sewing notion. They are a crutch for me.LOL
by marjialexa 29 Aug 2009
Aw, heck, I can't even see WITH my glasses! Somebody's going to have to make a braille machine pretty soon, hee hee hee. M

Hahahahahahahaha, Marji, do you want me to come and guide your hands while you use your machine!!! Love and hugs sweetie.
64489 Mmmm very easy as kttyhwk4 says the reading glasses. No glasses no nothing :)

7360 My glasses and small embroidery scissors. Most of all my computer for the program to run my machine.
13148 This one.
by jrob 29 Aug 2009
Paula, these are the "squeezers" that I believe Marji was talking about. Go look at Havel.com

I must say, that this is about the most important for me too. I have a little bottle of fray check like yours that my friend who lives in New Jersey brought for me when she came on holliday, and I love it. We get the same product here in South Africa, but it is more expensive.
56778 Ok... make it another vote for the teeny scissors. I think I have 3 or 4 pair. Some pointier than others. But that would definately be it!
3277 scissors or seam ripper but lots of things I couldn't do without......smiling
21956 I have to admit I had a hard time thinking of what to say, but must say, without a needle and a piece of thread first I would be lost. I carry one everywhere I go, for that little niggly things that happen when you least expect it. a Button, or even a zip that may give problems when you are in the funniest of places.LOL. God bless. 7823 I read everyone's answers and there are several that are close to being my favorite. Don't laugh now . . . I cannot do without my wooden crochet hook - I keep it close by the sewing machine and use it to capture the thread loop when using my 'self-threader'. I think my fingers are way to large to get in there behind the needle; and my eyesight is slightly . . . off!
2018 My squissors are my lifeline
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
How many pair do you have I have 6 good ones 2 embroidery and ? what i call cheap scissors.
30361 I need them all, but I have several seam rippers and seam gauges, so there's one handy no matter where I am. If I had to choose only one it would be a nice all purpose hand sewing needle. With it you could still do everything, although it would be a giant step back in time.
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
YES it would be a step back in time but from what my Grandmother says a needle a pair of scissors and a box of pins was all she had.
by free3wil 29 Aug 2009
after all the grandkids got big enough, my grandmother had a needle and thread in the bodice of her dresses. No pants for her!!! I don't think I remember her without that needle and thread, except Sundays. That memory makes me smile! Thanks.
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
It was my granddads job to keep my grandmothers quilting needles threaded. It was funny to find him walking downtown with thread ends on his pants.lol
5428 hi cuties, i would be completly lost with-out my needle threader as i am blind as a bat when it comes to threading needles, i always use a very small needle. am lucky embroidery and sew machines have threaders on them. flowers for all
by marjialexa 29 Aug 2009
That comes a close second! The reason I bought the Janome was the needle-threader, hee hee hee! Hugs, Marji
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
Oh yes my favorite needle threader is the green loop floss threaders. I have abox at both machines and in sewing box.
1484 I can,t begin to sew unless i have a cup of coffee by my side sooothats what i chose!!HA!HA!
4598 If it has to be just one, those little super-sharp curved point embroidery scissors! You can just do so much with them, and they're so easy to handle. Hugs, Marji
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
Okay there's a notion I don't have where did you get your? That may need to go on my stocking stuffer list.
by marjialexa 29 Aug 2009
They came with my Janome, and they're the coolest! I suspect you could get them at Joannes, maybe? They're like Jerrilyn's picture, but have handles with holes like regular scissors. I like the look of the squeezy ones, too. Hugs, Marji

882 Sorry, I can not pick just one!! There are tooo many a person needs that one depends on the other. H&*.
10802 I would have to agree with gerry! No reading glasses,no sewing! I wear contacts but must have my reading glasses for fine things! Scissors would come in 2nd!
by nonmusicmom 29 Aug 2009
Okay thanks. My scissors are all over the house! Can't ever find a pair where I need them.LOL
6852 You said one item...ok how about my sewing box, this way I get to keep everything...FIESTA ;D *2U
