Does anyone know if you need a license for a craft show at a church? Thank you.
I dont think so. I know they may charge a small fee to rent a space or a table.
I would think not, since all the crafters there are making things to benefit the church, not make a profit for themselves. Things like churches, school fairs, etc. wouldn't be a problem, because the institutions themselves are tax-exempt, it would be considered charity work. But I'm certainly not a lawyer, it depends on your locality. If you would believe it, our health department closed down a child's lemonade stand because he did not have a license from the health department to sell food. Sometimes the people in power are simply fools, so you never know, hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji
Sorry suzette I do not market any of my things. People contact me & ask & I'll do what they want. I like to do whatever pleases me for my family & stay constantly busy. I do exhibit at the Fair & several State Home Makers Clubs Art Festivals & enjoy it. I'm sure some of the Q.Ts will help u out. *
It is a good position to be in. The fact that you can choose who you make for! Wish I could see the things you make and exhibit.
Suzette very good suggestion. Mrs Ibrow, how about downloading pictures of ur most popular things u have made? We will appreciate it as I am really a beginner in everything
Suzette, this is a very good question! I'm thinking about getting involved in craft markets. Love, Yoriko
I have found that the best sellers are things made for children.
I do only two shows now. My best sellers are always my baby items. burb cloths, bibs, quilts or blankets, etc. Second in line are kitchen items, i.e. towels, potholders and such. This year I am making a lot of cotton fabric shopping bags, as the poular thing now is to save a tree. I hope they do well. I hope you do too. Becky
Thanks for your time to answer me Becky. Holding thumbs for your shopping bags!
Suzette, I don't do the craft markets any more - so I am out of the loop - but when I did - I sold lots of dish towels, bath towels, t-shirts and all sort of FSL items: bookmarks, doilies, bowls, t-shirt inserts, Christmas Ornaments & etc. Are you planning on getting involved in one? I suggest that you make plenty of whatever you like the most - because if it is something that you like - it will show and others will see it in your work. *4U
Thanks Shirlener, Thinking of that, but only at big events, i.e. a Christmas market. Thanks for your response.
Sewmom, it would probably depend on the state of the USA you lived in, what the guidelines for a vendor's license is. If I go to a craft fair and there's someone there that does many fairs, and does crafting more for a living than for a little spending money, usually they have a license displayed. This is in PA and NY. I don't know what the volume of sales is to require a license. It would probably be good to know for your particular area, I imagine they're all a bit different, that wouldn't be a federal law. Great question, good thing to remember! Hugs, Marji
Very good question? I would also like to know, do they get business licenses for that?
