Personal question/advice...I just bought this fabric (picture inside)...it is the softest cuddliest material..gonna make a little girls simple quilt...need to know how you would finish

of the edges of it to keep it soft and flimsy...last time I tried to add a silky ribbon border, it seemed to stiff and wouldn't flow properly...appreciate the help

Microfleece? I think a backing rolled over would work. I have used the microfleece and found it was not as delicate as I thought it would be but my overcast or blanket stitch didn't seem to work. Maybe I didn't have the correct tension or something since it works well on regular fleece.

I think that is what it is....This doesn't need a backing...its usable on both sides and just as soft on the back....its an edging im needing...unravels so cant do the strippings....

My last microfleece, I just single folded the edge and did a zigzag stitch. I tested several adjustments before I finished the actual blanket. Curved the corners for easy sewing.

you could put points on it out of the same material
or use other materal for points

I'd just turn under once and stitch--Use one of your stretch utility stitches. It's gonna take some time tho. . . about 5 minutes :)

Looks like a heavy flannel...watch that you don't stretch one side more than the other!!! I wouldn't use a cotton or satin binding...maybe a soft knit double fold OR as the others have said a self fabric!!!

No its not flannel..seems like I will probably have to do the rolled fabric because of the thickness.

I do roll over binding myself. that is when you leave a 1" or more material on the backing an roll it over to the front to make your binding. I have bought binding to put on quilts but have not mastered the technique of putting it on with my machine yet so roll over is so easy to me.
good luck I know what ever you choose it will be great.

I did play with that idea, but it seemed awful thick for a binder...

I'll have to check and see what would work for you. Maybe some piping or homemade binding very small thou of something that is soft as well.

I am not that good enough to do my own and keep it straight...leave that to the pros....I know, thats how they got to be that way...practice....

I would just cut it 1/2inch by 2inch strips and then tie 2 pieces together to make a fringe

I cannot do a fringe because it pulls and shredds apart a little...

cut some 2 inch strips from this fabric and use that for your binding. Same softness, same colors. You could also just roll the edges and do a rolled hem....

I kindof folded the material like it would be with the strips, but it seems like a really thick edge...I think the rolled hem is what I am going to have to do...the material has a little stretch to it one way whereas the other barely gives...with my luk on this one, I will probably have one side longer zthan the other...

If this is a fleece-type fabric that doesn't fray, just bind like a quilt. You can cut out the strip approximately 2 1/2" wide, sew to one side and turn over and sew on the other. You don't need to turn in a hem allowance as it doesn't fray. I saw this in one of my quilting mags.

oh my goodness....Did I give you a WELCOME TO CUTE...anyhow, it does pull apart almost gently tears like a tear away stabilizer...so I cab't do what you are suggesting....it has to be sewed around somehoe..

Oh, cute, cute, cute!! I think I'd go for just a blanket stitch on the edges for trim, if it's that fleece type fabric, or like the girls said, self edges out of the same material. When is it coming to my house? Hee hee hee, hugs, Marji
