28112 Monica, I would say a 'bad' design is one that is poorly auto-digitized, where the outline doesn't stitch in the right places, and the stitches don't make sense for what the part of the design is. For example, one part of a leaf will be weave, another part satin stitch, and it doesn't 'look right', it hasn't been done to accent a part of the design, it's just haphazard. A 'bad' design will also be pathed poorly, jumping all over the place to stitch out different portions of the same color when it's not necessary. That's how you get all those unnecessary jump stitches, the sequence of the design is not plotted properly. I always look at designs in my software, and do the 'sew-out' function to see how it's going to work before I even decide to use it. I must say that with the designs here at Cute and at Amazing and Adorable Applique, I know they will be right, I just go ahead and sew. Watch how Cute's designs sew out on your machine, that's what a "good" design is. Some digitizers are not quite as experienced, and their product is still good but with jump stitches, etc. And some jumps just can't be helped, especially if you're doing a 'vintage' type design, where the lines don't connect. Everyone has to start somewhere, and I don't mind designs from learners, because they keep getting better with experience. And the more people test a design, the more feedback a digitizer can get, ways to make the design better. Hope I've answered a bit of your question, anyway. Hugs, Marji
22884 For me mostly if the outlines are out, that makes me totally frustrated. sometimes I have to unpick some of the outline and do it by hand to finish off. Sooooooooo BAD

Thanks for sharing...sounds like a little manual work to get a finished product...YUCK ;D *2U
24327 I did my first design this weekend--Wow--hope it's good :) I wonder, because to me it was very easy. I haven't stitched it out yet, but I'm going to do that shortly. I bought a design (not cheap either), and only half of it had outline stitch to finish it off--looked really weird. To me that was bad.

Daisy, looking forward to seeing your design!! As for the one you purchased, you might want to contact the digitizer and explain the problem with it. It could be a problem in converting the design from the native format to your format, some of the information might have been lost. A digitizer can test a design, but only on the machines s/he has. If I tested my designs in jef, the digitizing program might have had a glitch in converting to pes, for example, and I'd have no way of knowing. Let the digitizer know, a good business person will make it right for you. Hugs, Marji

SHHH! Don't tell Bill Gates, but I used Microsoft Clipart for my sample. I emailed him, but he hasn't responded yet. I don't know what's wrong with that guy!

Thanks Marji...I've tested a few designs when I first started and thought it was my fabric. I tried again not knowing it was a "bad design". WOW, I have learned a lot today from this sesson ;D *2U
