was working on a birthday gift for Monday and my printer would not work. After going crazy thinking I would have to change my plans for the gift, I taped a put piece of paper in my embroidery hoop, took the thread off my machine and ran the first set of stitches. I left the paper taped to the hoop and just punched out my design like a paperdoll. I left the paper taped to my hoop and loaded my hoop with my backing fabric and then used the punched out design to place my applique cut out. It was on the perfect place when I started stitching my out line stitches. It mande my day and I thought I would share it with you. I will be saving money by not using my printer ink and use scrap paper I will save on paper. Have a good evening.

16392 Thanks for this tip, but my machine don't stitich without the thread, so I will use Martine's way.
38042 My machine won't stitch when it's not threaded. So I stitch it with thread - the way you described it - and tear along the stitched line. The thread then comes off easily.

Wish mine wouldn't, hee hee hee. Top thread breaks, she's done, but she'll sew without any bobbin thread all day. Ask me how I know, hee hee hee, she said my FSL was done, hee hee hee. Hugs, Marji

Yea, my machine will sew without bobbin thread too - until the top thread breaks. I wish it wouldn't as I have had some projects that the machine said were completed and they weren't!!

28081 Good idea!
Gals, you can trick your machine into
thinking it's treaded by threading it
all the way except the needle then tape the
end of the thread to your machine to keep
it from flopping around.

8785 GEE that is a wonderful idea!! And IF it is a complex cut out you could always stitch it on freezer paper and then iron that on the fabric b-4 you cut it out!!!:)

Freezer paper irons on? Wow, who knew that! Uh, you, obviously, Barb, thanks! Hugs, Marji
29905 for the card makers amongst us you can use
this idea to make a bookmarker simply
"sew" a perforation line about
one inch from back right edge of the card
and put a design onto it. it then becomes
a nice gift as well as a card. the
recipiant simply tears it along the
"sewn" perforation line
thanks for this one

When I was teaching I would do this with designs for the kids to learn how to cut 0n the line. Thats a good idea. Thanks
4598 Super cool idea!! Thanks so much for sharing! Great way for using up scrap paper, and you can save the 'paper' design for the next time you use that particular applique, too. Wow! Hugs, Marji
