I ran out of 40 wt. thread today as I was
quilting the last little bit of the border
on a quilt I was making. This was so
frustrating as I only had such a small
amount left to quilt. I soon discovered
ALL my local shops had no more thread of
this color and weight in stock (OMG!). So,
I went to my local Fabricland (I live in
Canada) and the girl there told me a secret
she uses sometimes......
It was to use some regular thread (which is
50 wt) and use 2 strands in the top - feed
it thru the machine as if it were one
thread - and then both threads go thru the
same eye of the needle. This makes the
thread appear a bit thicker.
So, that's what I did...picked out a
color very similar and used 2 strands. You
can't tell the difference, which is
wonderful! This was such a great tip, I
just needed to tell the whole world - LOL!

38170 QQ, thanks for the tip - so happy that the girl at Fabricland (I love that name) told you. You can also do some pretty embroidery with your built in stitches on your machine uses two colors and a twin needle to accent your design. Just thought you might want to try that, too!

2404 Great tip you never know when this will happen to someone else so you may have saved the day for them too. Of course they have to be reading this on Cute Embroidery (the best site on the internet)! *4U
