I tried using Press & seal as a topping, as suggested by someone a while back. It worked GREAT!

I was having some trouble with some fleece I was trying to applique. It was getting pushed around by the embroidery foot even with 505 spray. So I tried the press & seal and tadaaa, perfect job. I think some of the new Cuties might have missed it so thought it was worth posting again. My thanks to whomever posted it first.

Probably but I would prefer to use the correct stabliser

jjjj by jjjj 09 Apr 2009

Yes I think it is (I did an internet search) and like you and for the reasons mpo14011 says as well as not wanting to risk bits of plastic getting into my machine - just think of the repair bills -I'll pass this tip by. Thanks anyway debleerl, I try to read the tips never knowing what I may learn, but like all things in life we must choose what to accept and what to pass by. (Hope that doesn't sound priggish it's not meant to.)

No, Press & Seal is not the same as cling film, it's heavier and easier to handle. I was using it on fleece for a plush toy. I don't think I would use it on a t-shirt. However, it works better than Heat& Gone topping. Heat & Gone doesn't disolve from under the stitches either. So I will try it on terrycloth. No I didn't think you were priggish; we all can pick and choose what tips we will try or pass by. *4u

I don't think I would use plastic. It doesn't dissolve when you wash your garment, so you will always have a piece of plastic between the design and fabric, and plastic takes longer to dry then the rest of the garment. Plastic also sweats, so you could be left with a damp spot in humid, warm, or damp weather.
It is also not designed to be used as a stabilizer.

Thanks, I'm a newey and just love all the tips. I have to buy what the saleslady suggests and it is costing me a fortune as they won't tell you about things that can save you money.

Happy embroidering to all the Cuties.

It is a food saving product, kind of like the plastic paper but heavier

debleerl by debleerl 02 Apr 2009

It's a plastic food wrap that sticks to itself, glass, or metal. It's much easier to handle than saran wrap. I'll keep a roll in my sewing room from now on.

Now I know what is press&seal too :)

???do you use it instead of WSS??? Did you hoop it or just lay it on top???

debleerl by debleerl 02 Apr 2009

I used it as a topping like the clear WSS or Heat & Gone topping. I didn't have to hoop it since it stuck to the fleece. It tears right off when your're done.

    coco128 by coco128 02 Apr 2009

it actually stuck to the fleece?? that's great..I have to try because I work with fleece all the time. thanks so much.

I will definitely try it. It is always good to give these tips from time to time because some of us are newer and don't have the benefit of you wise women who have already tried everything. Thanks for the tip.
