Just an informative note on free designs. Designs, while given freely by digitisers for you to use, are not yours to share or give away to anyone else. You may give away your projects, with ....

the designs on them, you may even sell your projects, but the RIGHTS, to share the actual embroidery design, remain at all times with the digitiser who created the design.

You may share the Digitiser's contact details or if they have a web site you may share a link to their website, but if you share the designs you are guilty of BREACH of COPYRIGHT and leave yourself open to prosecution.

I hope this clarifies what you can and can NOT do with the designs given to you by digitisers.

hugs n roses, Meganne

I know this to be the case, and I follow the rules, but I don't understand. If a design is offered for free, why does it matter who passes it along? Maybe someone can clarify for me?

Freebies are mostly given as samples of the digitizer's ability. It's a form of attracting buyers. You take that away if you send them along to others. And even if the designs given away by cuties who don't have a website, they love to have a respons and some recognition.

Thank you for bringing this up. I feel very strongly about this too. It is enough for us, that cannot digitize, and may sell the product that it was used on, to use it. I now download these, when I do, by having a file in that persons name, or the site, typed in. This way I can give it to anybody who asks the website's name, or the person's name, and they can go to that site themselves. Huggs and flowers to you

U know Meg this probable needs to b run more often than it is . We have so many newbees embroidering now & I'm sure a lot of them do not know this & appreciate the heads up before they unknowingly run into copyright problems. Thank U Lillian *

Yes Lillian, I suppose it can be confusing for some people who think, INCORRECTLY, that because designs have been digitised for them, that they own the designs.
Even some 'Not so New' embroiderers can be caught out by this.

We wouldn't want ANYONE to do the wrong thing by any of the digitisers and cause animosity, especially through misunderstanding.

Glad to see that repeated again as there are always (new) people asking for desigms, missing letters etc.
