Itraced the design and embroidered the sheets. Now I traced it again and digitized it. I'll add the pictures here.

3292 That is REALLY nice..I remember doing hand work as a child...WHY? when a machine can do it better?!?
by mops 08 Jan 2009
Thank you. I, too, like to do hand embroidery, but the machine does it so much faster, I love the speed!
29915 You did a splendid job, and the thought is one thing that makes this special, Ties You, Your Mom & Dad, all together. I used to hand embroider a lot, but now I love my machine. **
19270 What a wonderful treasure! Great work Mops!! Wish I could digitize!!! *4U!!!!
44059 Beautiful job Martine, How well I remember having to learn how to do the boullion roses on baby things using silk embroidery thread. *4U

Thank you. I remember my first embroidery, during the war with slippery synthetic fibre. When that turned out well I was allowed to use my mum's precious prewar cotton. **

21277 Hi, Martine!! I wondered how your Mom pre-dated William the Conqueror, hee hee hee. Seriously, I think you did an amazing job capturing the handwork in your digitizing. What a wonderful thing to have to hand down in the family!! Well done, Brava!!!! Love, Marji
22884 This is the most perfect design for baby
pillow slips. Your digitizing is
beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing.

The material is a linen, which was quite strong as the pulled thread seams have not worn out although the sheets were used for me and my 4 siblings and for two of my grandchildren.
1940 How wonderful to have a treasure from your mother and father. You have honored them in digitizing it and using it in your craft today.;)

My dad was here for five days, left yesterday. he did not remember doing this particular drawing, but was surprised I had the sheets and pillow slips - I was ironing them for my daughter (baby is due in April). He loved the way I had digitized the design and wished my mum were still here to see it.
by peggy 08 Jan 2009
I think you mum sees it. It is my belief....Things done with love are often shared with those that are loved, even those that are no longer physically with us.
56796 Of course it was a bit later than that:1938!! The top one is my mother's handiwork, the lower one the result of my digitizing.
by ashta 07 Jan 2009
What a lovely heirloom from your parents! You digitized the design beautifully!
42449 This is lovely, I think doing that kind of hand embroidery is how we all learn to love what we are doing now. Are you going to put it in cuties designs? Thanks and ****4U
37705 There is something truly special about
vintage needle work, how truly talented our
forebears were and how much time did they
have to spare in that gentler age. Now we
have all the mod cons to do everything for
us and computers to use up all our spare
time. It will be a tragedy when no-one can
remember how to do hand needlework and
those arts become lost to us.
I'm glad you managed to keep your
Mum's beautiful linen. hugs n

My mother did not do much embroidery as she thought it too time consuming, but she had to rest a lot when she was expecting and 'allowed' herself to do leasurely things. I was a keen embroiderer and she always asked if I had nothing better to do, although she had me embroider all sorts of dresses for my younger sister. She once made me a beautiful 'smocked' dress when my grandmother was ill and she had to watch over her for nights on end. It was handed down through the family and I have no idea where it ended up. So these sheets are very special to me. My dad though loved needlework and admired the artistry. He used to paint - still does although his eyesight is deteriorating.

I still do some hand work, just for the enjoyment. Also, we wouldn't want it to become a lost art would we?
