63109I don't know about the car logos, how fussy the companies would be about embroidery patterns, because they don't have them & make money off them. But be assured, the logos are copyright! I suspect if you do it for yourself, you are advertising their car, you'd probably be ok. Still illegal, mind you, but perhaps defensible. But just as with your books, if you do it & sell the design so others can do it, you would be in violation of copyright. The company paid to have the logo produced, I think they would not take kindly to someone else making money off of it. That's why companies 'licence' the use of their intellectual property. You pay them a fee to use the logo, picture, etc. so you can make money off it. As far as Hello Kitty, that's by Sanrio, a Japanese firm, maybe you'd have more luck finding information than I did. Nowhere on the web did I find any **legal** Hello Kitty embroidery advertised. I could digitize Hello Kitty in ten minutes it's such simple artwork, but that wouldn't make it legal. Any Hello Kitty product I have seen says "licensed" and mentions Sanrio. I don't know whether borduurpatronen has a license or not, but I'd check if I were you. Have a great day!! Marji

740083I just was not sure about digitizing(making your own) a trademark design, but of course I respect everyone's hard work. I have my own work in other field(I write educational books), and I had problems people copying it without my permission. It seems that no one can really stop them from steal someone else's hard work. I appreciate your replies, Cuties!!!
88650Hi Manami, if you go the link i have added she has a Ferreri design. Click on the site scroll down to # 34006 click on this # look if it is the design you want, if it is scroll back up to Gastenboek (guest book),drop down Talen click on english, then click sign guest book, fill out the form,in the messages tell her what design # you are after and she will e-mail it to you in about 1 week.

It took me a long time when I started embroidering to totally understand this.
I really now believe it is this simple.
You can make anything for yourself. You can make a Mickey Mouse outline if you want. If you do this you cannot sell the design file or give it away. You can put the design on items for your personal use.
Some digitizers will allow you to sell items with their design on it.
You cannot make a design file of a licensed character, stitch it on something, and then sell it.
You cannot take a design file, change it or combine it with another unless you created it in the first place and then give the new design file away or sell that newly created design file.
The definitive term is DESIGN FILE.
Ten of us could take the same font or clip art, add stitiches to it in our digitizing software, and the designs would be the same outline however the odds of even two of us using the exact same stitches would be slim to none. We would each own the file we created and we could 1. Keep it for our own use 2. Sell the design file to someone else or 3. Give it away for free on a forum such as this or to a friend
We could stitch the design on something for our personal use, we could sell the item we stitched the design on or we could give it away

This is a very comprehensive list. So often people think you can download designs made from copyrighted art if it's free, while in fact that's illegal. Not every country actively upholds the law, but leaves it to the copyright owner. That's no problem for big corporations like Disney, quite a different matter for small firms.
60484i think all these including hello kitty hehehe are patent or registered trademarks. most probably u can do it for personal use but not for sales?
